About Dr. Deanne
Dr. Deanne is an accomplished urological surgeon with a speciality in robotic surgical procedures for both cancerous and non-cancerous conditions. Driven by a patient-centric care model, she prioritises patient comfort and education, understanding the stress that often accompanies surgical consultations. Her decision-making process is primarily influenced by the needs and priorities of her patients.
Educational Background and Expertise
Dr. Deanne began her educational journey by earning undergraduate degrees in Science and Education from The University of Melbourne and La Trobe University. She later pursued Medicine at the University of Notre Dame (Sydney and Melbourne) for her postgraduate qualification. As a young doctor, she continued her education by earning dual Masters' degrees in Surgery and in Health Leadership and Management.
Her formal urology training was conducted in Victoria, where she honed her skills in endourology, general urology, laparoscopic and open urological surgery, with a particular emphasis on minimally invasive techniques.
Beyond her foundational urological surgery training, she has undergone additional subspecialty training in Robotic Urological Surgery—Prostate, Kidney and Bladder Surgery at Stepping Hill Hospital, England.
Dr Deanne's area of expertise encompasses the following robotic and laparoscopic procedures:
Robotic Radical Prostatectomy, focused on the removal of prostate cancer while preserving erectile function
Robotic radical cystectomy, centering on the removal of bladder cancer and urinary tract diversion
Robotic Partial and Total Nephrectomy, for kidney cancer removal
Robotic Nephroureterectomy, aimed at removing upper urinary tract cancer
Robotic Pyeloplasty and Ureteric Re-implantation, focused on treating ureteric strictures
Furthermore, she carries out general urological procedures such as TURP, Urolift, laser lithotripsy, and general urological and peno-scrotal surgery.
Leadership and Mentor Roles
Outside the confines of her surgery, Dr. Deanne is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and leadership. She currently sits on the USANZ Diversity and Inclusion Committee and is a part of the RACS Women in Surgery Group.
Dr. Deanne has held multiple leadership roles in the past, which includes being the Chair of the Urology Trainee Forum, Director of Communications at RACSTA (Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trainee Association), Victorian and National Representative of the Australian and New Zealand Trainees, and a member of the RACS Board of Urology.
Apart from these, she mentors numerous urology trainees. Her commitment to research was recognised with the Keith Kirkland Prize in 2020.
Personal Life
Away from her professional commitments, Dr. Deanne enjoys travelling, culinary adventures, reading, and cherishing quality moments with her partner Duncan and their two dogs, Chico and Kulfi.
